Biography

Patrice Lazard is an agricultural economist and a dedicated nonprofit professional, currently serving as the Communications and Operations Coordinator at Freedmen Heirs Foundation. She earned her BS in Agricultural Economics from Southern University and A&M College and her MS in Agricultural Economics with a concentration in international trade from Louisiana State University.

 

Patrice’s connection to agriculture began early, growing up on her family’s farm, where she developed a deep appreciation for the land and its importance, and the challenges faced by farmers in her community. Her experience is complemented by her time as a USDA 1890 Scholar, where she interned with First South Farm Credit, the USDA Farm Service Agency, and the USDA Economic Research Service.

 

In her role at the Freedmen Heirs Foundation, Patrice leads the strategic communication efforts that amplify the organization’s mission and vision while ensuring the alignment and efficiency of internal operations. With her past experiences, she is able to develop and implement inclusive messaging strategies across digital platforms to foster deeper engagement with stakeholders and community partners while coordinating key initiatives. Additionally, she provides support to organizational processes and logistical planning, making her instrumental to the day-to-day operations and long-term sustainability of the organization.

 

Before her current role, Patrice was the Project Manager at Freedmen, where she was responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing projects that aligned with the foundation’s goals and objectives while working within time, budget, and resource constraints. Beyond her role as Communications and Operations Coordinator, Patrice serves part-time as a First Lieutenant in the Louisiana Army National Guard, where she continues to build her leadership and organizational skills. She is also a wife and mother to two amazing children, as well as the owner of a handmade goods business that specializes in creating custom home decor and gifts.

 

Patrice’s collaborative spirit and attention to detail are evident in her work. Additionally, she brings a thoughtful, steady, and mission-driven approach to everything she does, with a strong commitment to uplifting Black and underserved farmers through agriculture and service.
